Midlands club West Bromwich Albion were founded in 1878 and have been based at The Hawthorns, their current home ground, since 1900. Popularly referred to by their nicknames The Baggies, The Throstles or simply Albion, the club has developed the reputation of being a yo-yo club in recent times. Prior to that, however, they do boast a very impressive record with five FA Cup wins to their name, one League Cup and one League title.
Currently managed by Valerien Ismael, the club have seen a number of big-name managers at their helm over the course of their history. Some of the most successful among them include the legendary Fred Everiss who led the club for an incredible 46 years, Vic Buckingham who won the FA Cup with the club and steered them to a second place in the league, Ron Atkinson (who led the club twice on either side of his stint at Manchester United) and Gary Megson.
Over the years a number of players have written themselves into Throstle folklore. Some of the biggest stars include the likes of defender and skipper Jesse Pennington, the club’s highest goal scorer William 'Ginger' Richardson, midfielder Ray Barlow, centre forward Ronnie Allen and John Wile. Meanwhile the current squad includes names like Jake Livermore, Robert Snodgrass and Alex Mowatt.
