Tottenham man made LaLiga side’s ‘priority’ after collapse of ex-Arsenal star’s move, as confirmed Spurs arrival makes Conte decision easy
A LaLiga powerhouse have made signing a Tottenham forward their primary focus before the window slams shut, and a recently confirmed deal – along with continued speculation over a second – could embolden Antonio Conte to sanction a move, per reports.
Tottenham pulled off one of the shocks of the window earlier this week when hijacking Everton’s loan move for Arnaut Danjuma.
The Dutchman had already passed an Everton medical and had even performed early media duties for the club. Yet when Spurs came calling the player had a rapid change of heart, citing his ruthless decision to ditch the Toffees as a “no-brainer”.
Elsewhere, Tottenham remain in the mix to sign Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo.
Whether they’ll pursue the Italy international with as much vigour as they had been remains to be seen now Danjuma has signed.
However, Gazzetta dello Sport recently reported Zaniolo is poised to snub a shock move by Bournemouth. The classy forward favours a move to a ‘top club’ and as such, a deal remains there for the making if Spurs desire.
In the event Zaniolo does sign, Conte will be able to call upon Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison, Lucas Moura, Danjuma, Zaniolo and Bryan Gil in the forward ranks.
Even without Zaniolo, Conte is spoilt for choice, meaning Sevilla’s new determination to sign Bryan Gil may well result in a move.
Sevilla eyeing Gil after ex-Arsenal star’s move collapses
Fabrizio Romano reported Sevilla want the 21-year-old in the final days of the window. They’ve made the Spaniard their ‘priority’ target and talks have been scheduled with Spurs.
Whether a loan or permanent exit is being planned wasn’t made clear by the transfer guru. However, Football London recently claimed Sevilla’s move likely centres around a loan with an option to buy.
In any case, one thing is for sure, Sevilla will do all they can to secure a move. Indeed, their manager, Jorge Sampaoli, recently confirmed as much.
In quotes carried by Spanish outlet AS, Sampaoli said: “Bryan Gil fits my profile because I called him personally last year at Marseille [who Sampaoli managed at the time]
“To me, he is a player who could give us something on the wing, but these are situations that I am no longer involved in.
“[Jeff] Reine-Adelaide seemed to have a lot of potential but then his condition and his status is not my business. I’m not the one to evaluate that.”
The Reine-Adelaide deal Sampaoli referenced recently broke down due to concerns that arose in the Lyon star’s medical.
Sevilla were poised to sign the ex-Arsenal man, but while he didn’t fail his medical, L’Equipe (via Get French Football News) claimed an alarming lack of pace and explosiveness caused Sevilla officials to balk.
With that move now resigned to the scrapheap, it’s all systems go for Tottenham’s Bryan Gil.
