Tottenham laugh off new bid for brutal departure with update to accepted offer ‘not being taken seriously’

Atletico Madrid have made a new offer to Tottenham Hotspur for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, according to reports – but the terms they have changed to have not gone down well in north London.
Hojbjerg has been a top target for Atletico all summer long amid their need for a new defensive midfielder. In fact, at one stage, they apparently agreed a fee with Spurs for the Danish enforcer. However, despite claims he was keen on the move, Hojbjerg did not agree personal terms with Atletico.
Now, reports from various sources imply that Atletico have made a new bid for Hojbjerg on deadline day. Indeed, they have now asked to take him on loan for the season.
According to the Daily Telegraph, though, their new proposal is ‘not being taken seriously’ by Tottenham. After all, losing a regular starter at this stage of the window without getting a transfer fee (no obligation to buy was attached to the offer, although the Daily Mail predicted it would) would have little appeal to them, even if they have been open to offloading Hojbjerg.
He was also briefly linked with Fulham earlier on Friday, but their pursuit to take him across London has already ended, per the Telegraph‘s update.
Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed that the current conditions of Atletico’s bid do not satisfy Spurs at all. As things stand, the 28-year-old could now be more likely to stay at Tottenham.
He has been with the club for three years already after signing from Southampton in 2020. His contract with Tottenham is due to last until 2025.
Hojbjerg was an unused substitute for Tottenham’s first match of the new season, but has played some part in all three of their games since.
