Founded in 1889 after they were spun out of the Sheffield United Cricket Club, this South Yorkshire-based outfit hold the distinction of being the first club in England to win promotion into the top tier of English football after they won the second division in 1892/93. A century later they were also a founding member of the Premier League when it came into being in 1992/93.
Known as The Blades due to the city's historic association with the steel industry, the club boasts a host of accolades over the course of its storied history. Aside from winning the Football League in 1898, they have enjoyed particular success in the world's oldest cup competition, the FA Cup, winning it on no fewer than four occasions.
Currently managed by Slavisa Jokanovic, The Blades are currently plying their trade in the Championship following relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2020/21 season. Looking back through their history, Sheffield United have been led by a number of very successful managers. These include Chris Wilder, Ian Porterfield, Teddy Davison and Neil Warnock.
Bramall Lane, where The Blades play their home games, is the oldest major stadium anywhere in the world. Steeped in history, it hosted its first game as long ago as 1862. Over the years many great players have trod its turf in the white and red colours of United. Some of the greatest players include goalkeeper Alan Kelly Jr, striker Billy Sharp, Paul Stancliffe, Brian Deane and Colin Morris.
