Man Utd plot move for £60m-rated Everton star as West Ham frustrate Ten Hag with fresh Amrabat ‘offer’
Manchester United are considering a move for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, who is reportedly valued at £60m by the Toffees.
The Belgium international signed for the Merseyside club last summer for a fee of £33.5m and is touted to become a top player in the future.
Onana has so far made 36 appearances for Everton and was one of the few bright sparks of a relegation-threatened 2022/23 campaign.
It’s no secret that Erik ten Hag is looking to add another midfielder to his squad before the transfer window closes.
Fred has already been sold to Fenerbahce, Donny van de Beek is expected to be sold to Real Sociedad and Scott McTominay is still being linked with a move away from Man Utd.
Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg has claimed that the Red Devils are holding out for £45m for McTominay, after rejecting a £30m offer from West Ham.
Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat has been considered to be Man Utd’s top midfield target for some time.
However, ironically, West Ham have now ‘made an offer’ for the Morocco international which has put a move to Old Trafford in doubt.
As a result, Ten Hag is considering other options and could now pursue a move for Onana.
Everton want £60m for Onana
According to transfer journalist Alan Myers, who is considered to be very reliable for Everton transfer news, Man Utd hold a concrete interest in Onana.
On Twitter, he wrote: “Man Utd are interested in signing Amadou Onana.
“No offer has been made at this point. Everton would be looking for around £60m for the Belgium midfielder.”
Everton would ideally prefer to keep Onana but they have very little transfer funds to play with at the moment, with a big squad rebuild needed.
Sean Dyche has made four signings this summer, with the latest being Leeds winger Jack Harrison (loan). He is still desperate to bring in an experienced centre-forward, though.
With that in mind, Everton may well sanction the exit of Onana if Man Utd put £60m on the table for him.
A versatile player, he can play as a defensive, central or attacking midfielder. Standing at 6ft4, he is an imposing figure on the pitch, is surprisingly quick and loves a slide tackle.
As mentioned, Onana is touted to become a top player as he gains more experience, so it will be interesting to see if Man Utd make an opening offer for the Belgian in the next few days.
