Preston North End is a Lancashire based club started life as a cricket club before morphing into a football team in 1880. The club has been based at its current Deepdale home since its time as a cricket club! Now playing their football in The Championship under the management of Ryan Lowe, the team has won several major honours over the course of their history. Admittedly most of their trophies were achieved a long way in the past with their most recent major trophy the 1937/38 FA Cup. Prior to that they lifted the same trophy in 1889 when they beat Wolverhampton Wanderers in the final that was played at (fittingly for a club that started out as a cricket club) at The Kennington Oval. The Lilywhites, as the club are nicknamed, have also won the league twice as they finished top of the pile in the seasons of both 1888/89 and 1889/90.
The current Preston squad is captained by Irish midfielder lan Browne. It also features stars like goalkeeper Declan Rudd, strikers Tom Barkhuizen and Scott Sinclair (formerly of both Chelsea and Manchester City) and veteran defender Paul Huntington. Other stars to have worn the famous white shirt include Alan Kelly (who holds the record for the most appearances for the club), Tom Finney (their record goal scorer) and Willie Cunningham. Meanwhile two famous footballers, Mark Lawrenson and Kevin Kilbane, are both fans of the club and former players.
