Postecoglou unfazed as Tottenham star is tipped to force exit in favour of European football
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg wants to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer because he wants to play European football, according to reports.
The 28-year-old made a 14-minute cameo in Spurs’ 2-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday but seems to have fallen down the pecking order.
Ange Postecoglou has opted to start the likes of Yves Bissouma, Oliver Skipp, Pape Malang Sarr ahead of Hojbjerg this season. This is despite him featuring in all but three of Tottenham’s Premier League fixtures last term.
It’s believed that Postecoglou is willing to sell the Dane for the right price. As previously reported by TEAMtalk, Atletico Madrid leading the race for the midfielder’s signature.
The LaLiga giants have already made a bid of €25m (£21.3m) for Hojbjerg, which was rejected by Tottenham. To get a deal done, they will have to get closer to Spurs’ valuation of €45m (£38.5m).
Reports now suggest that Hojbjerg is actively pushing to leave Tottenham this summer. As a result, everything points towards him leaving at the moment.

Postecoglou won’t care if Hojbjerg leaves
According to former Scotland striker Kris Boyd, there will be plenty of players, like Hojbjerg, who want to leave Tottenham after they failed to qualify for Europe last season.
“You have got players who will want to play in Europe and Tottenham aren’t in Europe,” Boyd told Sky Sports News
“There will be players there who will be saying ‘I want to sample the European nights and if there is an opportunity to move, then I want to move’.
“Hojbjerg has been in Tottenham’s starting XI, for a number of years now. And he finds himself out of the team.
“There are a lot of players, with a change of manager and the style of play Ange Postecoglou plays, you need to be able to fit and fit into that style, or you won’t be there.”
As suggested by Boyd, Postecoglou will have no problem offloading players like Hojbjerg who don’t want to be at Tottenham, especially when he has plenty of cover in his position.
With that in mind, it will be interesting to see if Atletico Madrid make an improved offer for the Denmark international in the next few days.
Given the Spanish club will be competing in the Champions League this season, Hojbjerg would be more than happy to join them.
