Since being founded in 1892 following the amalgamation of the Newcastle East End and Newcastle West End clubs, only eight other sides have won more silverware than Newcastle United. Known variously as The Magpies, The Toon or The Geordies, Newcastle has won four League titles, six FA Cups and a Charity Shield. It has also tasted success in Europe. In total it has spent 89 seasons in England's top flight. Since the formation of the Premier League in 1992, Newcastle has spent just three years outside of the division.
Newcastle is one of the most well-supported clubs globally, currently ranking as the 17th-highest revenue-producing club in the world. At one stage it ranked as high fifth, the second-richest club in England after Manchester United - admittedly that was in 1999 and the football landscape has changed somewhat in the intervening period.
Newcastle are currently managed by Steve Bruce who has been at the helm since 2019. Notable managers over the course of the club's history include Bobby Robson, Kevin Keegan, Joe Harvey and Frank Watt, the club’s first manager who was in charge for an incredible 1,264 games over a 37-year period.
Some of the greatest players to appear in the famous black and white stripes of Newcastle include Peter Beardsley, Shay Given, Alan Shearer, Bobby Moncur and Bill McCracken. Shearer holds the record for the most Premier League goals of all time - 148 of those goals were scored for Newcastle.
