Man City braced for £30m bid that’ll see attacker forge mouth-watering Liverpool link-up
Man City will soon receive a £30m bid for one of their frontline attackers, and if the bid is accepted, a mouth-watering partnership with a Liverpool icon would await.
The burgeoning Saudi Pro League has already seen some of the top names in world football join their ranks this summer. Liverpool and Man City are both vulnerable to Saudi raids, with the Reds poised to see captain Jordan Henderson join Al Ettifaq.
Fabinho too could make way, with the Athletic detailing an imminent £40m bid. Elsewhere, Man City are braced for a tempting bid for Riyad Mahrez.
The 32-year-old remains a key forward for Pep Guardiola. While it’s Bernardo Silva who generally gets the nod on the right wing in the biggest games, it’s Mahrez who racks up far more starts in the position.
Mahrez was on form once again as City romped to the treble last season. However, that may prove to be the Algerian’s swansong at the Etihad.
Indeed, the Athletic bring news of Saudi side Al Ahli preparing a £30m bid for Mahrez. While he remains integral for Guardiola, £30m is a sum that will take careful consideration given Mahrez is 32 years of age.
Al Ahli have already spoken to Mahrez regarding personal terms. Per the report, they’ve put a colossal weekly wage of £480,000 on the table (roughly £25m per year).
In the event Mahrez were to make the move, he’d forge an eye-catching attacking link-up with Liverpool legend, Roberto Firmino.
Firmino joined Al Ahli as a free agent earlier this summer and has since been joined by ex-Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy at the club.
The prospect of seeing Mahrez and Firmino combine would be a mouth-watering one given how important they’ve been to England’s two best clubs over the last half decade.
From the player’s end, it’s stated Mahrez is still to reach a decision one way or another on whether to leave. From Man City’s perspective, they’d very much like to retain their star winger.
In any case, Al Ahli are labelled ‘extremely keen to recruit Mahrez’. As such, if the looming bid is rejected, there may well be a second.
