Major Liverpool exit ‘advancing’, with Klopp favourite to join Chelsea star ‘soon’

Liverpool stars Roberto Firmino, Alisson Becker and Fabinho

A Liverpool icon’s next move is advancing to the “final stages”, and a link-up with a Chelsea star could be confirmed in the coming days, per a top source.

Midfield arrivals and exits will dominate the headlines at Anfield this summer. However, Fabrizio Romano stressed a new centre-back is in Liverpool’s sights, while modern-day great, Roberto Firmino, will leave as a free agent on June 30.

The Brazilian, 31, will bring his outstanding stint on Merseyside to a close on Friday. Despite his importance to the Reds, Liverpool aren’t expected to sign a new frontman given their recent acquisitions of Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo.

As such, all eyes are on where Firmino will move next. Early interest was lodged from some of Europe’s elite including Real Madrid and Barcelona.

However, a move to the burgeoning Saudi Pro League has since moved into focus. Indeed, transfer guru Romano revealed Saudi side Al Ahli have tabled a three-year contract they hope will be enough to lure Firmino to the middle east.

A medical is understood to have been prepared and per the latest update, the deal is “advancing”.

Romano tweeted “Al Ahli are advancing to final stages of Roberto Firmino deal”. The player seemingly has a reservation or two, with the reporter adding his camp are “still discussing some details before giving the green light”.

However, Al Ahli are understood to be confident of reaching an agreement and Firmino’s potential arrival could see him link up with Chelsea goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy.

The Blues stopper, 31, has reportedly agreed personal terms with Al Ahli and per the Evening Standard, will move to the tune of £16m.

That will represent a £6m loss for Chelsea having paid Rennes £22m back in 2020. However, given Mendy is the wrong side of 30 and not a starter, it’s decent business nonetheless.

The Standard stated a medical has been pencilled in for last this week. Mendy’s deal with the Saudi side will run until 2026.

Romano concluded Al Ahli “hope to unveil Firmino and Mendy as new signings soon”.
