Liverpool star drops hint over future and reacts to Jurgen Klopp’s transfer masterplan ahead of summer rebuild
Liverpool are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window and Jordan Henderson has had his say on the transfer policy for the summer.
Things haven’t been smooth sailing for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season to say the least. Despite getting their act together lately, Liverpool have been off the pace for plenty of the campaign.
Plenty of fans and pundits alike have pointed the finger at Liverpool’s midfield. The club have seemingly neglected to strengthen this position in recent years and they have been left short this year.
Henderson himself has been called into question this year, but he still believes he has plenty of years left at the top level.
“I’ve got at least a good few years left in me, and ready for a new challenge again come next season,” Henderson told Sky Sports.
“I feel really good still, physically, to be honest. I feel in good shape – you look at the modern player and I think that age gap for retirement is always going higher.
“I watched the Champions League semi final in midweek and you’ve got Modric, Benzema and players like that playing at that high level at 37 and still looking physically really really good.”
Henderson doesn’t think midfield is only problem
Despite the calls to overhaul the midfield, Henderson believes Liverpool’s problems this season haven’t been exclusive to his position.
“I don’t buy into this stuff that gets said on the outside, you can see a lot more from the inside so you don’t pay too much attention.
“If you look back at the season you wouldn’t say there’s been one area, I think we’ve struggled all over the pitch and as a team so that’s the most important thing to get back to.
“Of course, you’re going to need to sign new players to freshen the squad up, to bring new players, to improve the team. If it is just centred around one position or one part of the field, I don’t agree with that. We’ve got to always look to improve in all parts of the team and all areas of the game.”
Liverpool have put together a good run of form and could still finish the season in the top four, despite their false start.
Klopp’s side currently sit fifth in the table and are just one point behind Man Utd, with Erik ten Hag’s side having a game in hand.
Henderson himself thinks it will be tough to finish in the top four, but he isn’t ruling anything out just yet.
The Liverpool captain added: “I think it will still be tough – a lot of things need to happen for us to do that – but it’s football, you never know.”
Liverpool’s remaining fixtures are against Leicester, Aston Villa and Southampton. The maximum amount of points they can now finish on is 71 if they win all of their remaining matches.
