Jurgen Klopp makes it clear his thinking on Liverpool youngster

Jurgen Klopp has revealed he will hold talks with Dominic Solanke over the striker’s future at Liverpool.

The 21-year-old England U21 forward has not made an appearance for the first team this season, but he has impressed for the national side.

Solanke scored twice this week for the England Under-21s – a neat header and fine back heel – and Klopp acknowledged Solanke had played “really well” in the 5-1 win over Denmark.

Asked what the immediate future holds for Solanke, Klopp said at his Melwood news conference: “We will see.

“Nobody should worry about the future of English football. This could be the best U21 team ever when you think about who could play for the first-team, like Trent, [Ben] Chilwell, Loftus-Cheek, Rashford.

“It’s a bit difficult [Solanke’s] situation here but if Dom continues like he did so far then he will be fine.

“There’s nothing to say about short or long-term things. He is our player. If I have to decide it will stay like that.”

Asked if Solanke was better training with the first-team squad rather than going out on loan, Klopp added: “At the moment there is no alternative.

“We will see what happens. We talk to the players about that. They don’t have to watch boring press conferences to know about that.

“We will see. We want to help Dom and he can help us. That’s the target.”

Solanke, who arrived at Anfield from Chelsea in the summer of 2017 on a free transfer, is under contract at Anfield until 2022.

Klopp, who dismissed recent transfer talk surrounding Fabinho, has made it clear that he would like Solanke to continue his development at Liverpool but the youngster may well be looking for first-team football in January.
