Newcastle transfer latest: Joelinton named as one of three stars set for summer exit
Joelinton, Jonjo Shelvey and Jamaal Lascelles are all reportedly set to leave Newcastle United this summer.
The Magpies are expected to be busy in the upcoming window with it being their first summer following the takeover. The new owners are looking to push further up the Premier League table, and to achieve this will require some big-money signings before the next campaign begins. To make room for newcomers, Newcastle are now expected to sell three star players from this season.
According to journalist Dean Jones with GiveMeSport, Joelinton, Shelvey and Lascelles are all set for summer exits.
Joelinton and Shelvey have been top performers in midfield under Eddie Howe. However, the owners are believed to be striving for higher talent, having recently been linked to Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
Journalist Jones said on the matter: “In terms of central midfielders, however good Shelvey and Joelinton have been for Newcastle, they’re not going to be a big part of that future.
“They’re going to keep pushing and pushing, striving to get better, and those players will fall to the wayside. They will eventually be replaced by better players, and for a fan, that’s pretty exciting.”
Joelinton has been a consistent starter for Newcastle this season. Featuring in 32 of their 35 Premier League matches, he has delivered some top performances in recent weeks.
However, it seems the £40million signing does not meet the new standards set by the club.
Shelvey, 30, will also reportedly meet a similar fate. Having been with the club since 2015, Shelvey will also be moved on to make room for fresher talent.
Lascelles to join Joelinton in exit as Forest verge on signing
Newcastle defender Lascelles has also reportedly been told he can leave the club.
The 28-year-old has been a solid performer over the years at Newcastle, however is expected to be moved on.
Jones reports that Nottingham Forest have enquired about Lascelles’ availability this summer.
However, Forest may face some competition with a number of Championship clubs said to be interested.
Jones said: “I think there’s a possibility that he goes to Forest, maybe.
“I think there will be a few clubs interested in signing him; high Championship, low-end Premier League, is probably where he will be looking.”
