Tottenham told to make Joe Rodon profit next summer with perfect Prem springboard loan named
Tottenham should allow Joe Rodon to leave on loan this summer and create an opportunity to make profit on the defender, according to one expert.
The Wales international moved to Spurs in the summer 2020 transfer window under Jose Mourinho’s stewardship. However, he has only made 24 appearances since then and is down the pecking order.
Tottenham’s back line continues to evolve, with Cristian Romero blossoming into a senior defender. Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez are other options, while Ben Davies is now a centrepiece of Antonio Conte’s back three.
As a result, Rodon has continued to struggle for game time under the Italian manager, who wants another centre-back signing this summer.
According to Tottenham insider John Wenham, Spurs should therefore let Rodon go out on loan. Wenham named Nottingham Forest as an ideal loan club, with the potential of a sale next summer bringing Tottenham profit.
Indeed, Rodon and Forest boss Steve Cooper worked together at Swansea.
“That could be an option for Joe Rodon,” Wenham told Football Insider.
“He is a player who, if he went out on loan, he would impress. You just have to look at how well he plays for Wales. He just needs a run of games somewhere. It isn’t going to be Tottenham.
“Three, four, five managers have had a look and decided he isn’t for them. I think the interesting one is Steve Cooper at Forest. They have worked together before and Forest need players with Premier League experience.
“I know Rodon hasn’t played a heap of Premier League games for Tottenham but he has trained against Son and Kane every day.
“Forest would be a good shout for him but Tottenham should loan him and potentially double his value.”
Rodon needs Tottenham exit
Before Conte arrived at Tottenham, Davies also had an uncertain future at the club.
However, his resurgence has made Rodon’s struggles more obvious and the Wales star needs a move away.
It could well be that Spurs loan him out and decide to integrate him in the 2023/24 season after a resurgence of his own.
However, there is also the prospect of making a profit on the centre-back to allow Tottenham to reinvest.
Either way, Rodon‘s situation does not look good for anyone at Spurs, even if there is a chance he could get an elevated role through injury to other players.
