Tottenham field fresh enquiry from fellow London Prem side for Joe Rodon after Conte makes up mind
Fulham have reminded Tottenham Hotspur of their interest in signing defender Joe Rodon, according to a report.
Rodon is facing an uncertain future at Tottenham Hotspur after not making any Premier League starts last season. He has not travelled with the first-team squad for their pre-season tour of South Korea, due to illness.
Still, when available again, the Wales international would have a big battle on his hands to convince Antonio Conte of his worthiness of consideration. Last season, Cristian Romero, Eric Dier, Ben Davies, Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga all played more than Rodon.
Conte now also has Clement Lenglet at his disposal after Tottenham signed the France international on loan from Barcelona.
Therefore, although there have been claims that the Tottenham coach is unsure what to do with Rodon, a departure seems more likely.
Indeed, Football Insider now claim Conte has “given the green light” to an exit for the former Swansea City star. His potential takers, the website claims, could be Fulham.
After winning promotion to the Premier League again, Fulham are working on strengthening their squad. Reports have suggested they may want up to 10 signings.
Two have already arrived in the shape of Joao Palhinha from Sporting CP and Andreas Pereira from Manchester United.
Next, Fulham’s attention may turn to bolstering a defence that conceded the highest number of goals out of the three promoted clubs in the Championship last season (even if their record was still positive).
There have been rumours of a raid on one London rival by pursuing West Ham’s Issa Diop. But another target could be Tottenham backup Rodon.
According to Football Insider, Fulham have registered their interest in Rodon again after adding him to their shortlist earlier in the summer.
Spurs are supposedly open to selling the 24-year-old, so there could be an opportunity for the Cottagers. Despite there being three years remaining on Rodon’s contract, it may be more feasible for him to exit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.
Joe Rodon could be good fit for Fulham
Fulham could be a good landing spot for the centre-back. Having done well in the Championship before, joining a club that won that league may be a suitable step for him.
Perhaps Tottenham was just too big a leap in the first place. However, he can still get back on track – and potentially with a Premier League club.
In a World Cup year, the 27-time Wales international will want to increase his chances of heading to Qatar by playing regularly at club level.
Fulham would be more likely to offer him frequent gametime than Tottenham. In theory, he could line up alongside Tosin Adarabioyo within a starting partnership.
Football Insider have not revealed how much Rodon may cost. Spurs might struggle to recoup their original investment, which was worth between £11m and £15m.
