Antonio Conte puts Ivan Perisic on Tottenham wish list, as Fabrizio Romano reveals frontrunner for deal
Antonio Conte has reportedly put Ivan Perisic on his wish list at Tottenham, with Fabrizio Romano revealing who is leading the race for the Inter star.
Perisic has been at plenty of clubs during his career, including the likes of Club Brugge, Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg. The wide midfielder has been on Inter’s books since August 2015, when they paid Wolfsburg just over £17million for him.
However, Perisic couldn’t help the Nerazzurri to win any trophies during his first four years in Italy.
He left for Bayern in 2019-20 as the German giants spent £4.5m to loan him for the season. Perisic made 35 appearances that campaign, helping Bayern to win three trophies.
They lifted the Bundesliga title, Champions League and German Super Cup during Perisic’s stint at the Allianz Arena.
The Croatia international, capped 113 times so far, has been back at Inter for the past two seasons.
More accolades have come his way, including the Serie A crown in 2020-21. This term, Inter have won the Italian Cup and Italian Super Cup.
But Perisic could leave the club this summer as his contract is due to expire on June 30.
Fabrizio Romano provides latest on Ivan Perisic
And a potential move to the Premier League – which would be his first spell in England – is on the cards.
According to a recent report, Perisic’s agent has held a meeting with officials from Inter. He told the chiefs that the 33-year-old was looking at proposals from other teams.
As such, Inter have increased their wage offer to £79,000 per week, which would rise to £99,000 a week thanks to bonuses.
Fabrizio Romano provides an update on the situation. While it is good news for Tottenham, it is also bad news for Inter boss Simone Inzaghi.
That’s because Perisic won’t reveal his contract decision on Friday – the announcement could wait until next week as a result.
Ivan Perisic wanted by Newcastle and Chelsea
Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic could be on the move to the Premier League with Chelsea and now Newcastle interested
Romano claims it is Tottenham who are leading the race for Perisic, despite Chelsea and Newcastle also wanting him. He is a ‘priority’ for the north London outfit as they look to appease manager Conte.
The Italian, who took Inter to the Serie A title, has put Perisic on his wish list for the summer.
Inter are waiting to see if their latest, improved contract offer is enough to keep the wide man around. But he is seemingly getting closer to a Spurs move.
Perisic would be a great signing for Conte and Spurs, even if he is in the twilight years of his career. He has converted from a winger to a left midfielder/left wing-back in recent seasons.
That means he could excel on the left flank in Conte’s 3-4-3 formation. Perisic would be a more attacking option than Sergio Reguilon or Ryan Sessegnon.
But given his age, it is certainly not a long-term solution. Perisic would only be handed a contract lasting one or two years, should he opt to join Spurs.
Meanwhile, Spurs are looking into the possibility of capturing an impressive midfielder from Monaco.
