Ivan Perisic transfer latest: Tottenham reach ‘full agreement’ as Chelsea approach rejected
An agreement has reportedly been reached which will see Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic join Tottenham Hotspur once his contract expires next month.
During the week, it was reported that Spurs were leading the race to sign the Croatian star in the summer. Inter were keen to keep hold of the 33-year-old, however, Perisic was adamant about a move away. Now, his future seems to be secured with his first stint in England on the verge of completion.
That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who tweeted that a ‘full agreement’ had now been reached between Spurs and the player.
Perisic is now expected to arrive in London as early as next week, with a medical booked to finalize the deal.
Spurs boss Antonio Conte highlighted Perisic as a priority for the club this summer. The Italian coach has already worked alongside Perisic when he managed Inter Milan back in 2019.
During that spell, the pair had somewhat of a difficult relationship. Upon his arrival, Conte sent the player out on loan to Bayern Munich, where Perisic won three major trophies in just one season.
Perisic did however return to play under Conte the following season. During the 2020/21 Perisic established himself as a vital first-team player. He helped Inter claim a title-winning season under Conte with 42 appearances.
Now, the duo look set to be reunited at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as Conte will look to build on his fourth-placed finish next season.
Chelsea miss out on Ivan Perisic
It was also reported another Premier League outfit were keen to recruit Perisic this summer.
Chelsea had also been linked with a move for the Croatian star. However, it is believed that Perisic rejected both Chelsea and Juventus in favour of playing under Conte once again.
Ivan Perisic will sign for Tottenham over Chelsea
Ivan Perisic will be a Tottenham player next season after leaving Inter Milan and snubbing Chelsea
A versatile player, Perisic can play in a number of positions all over the pitch. Having played predominantly as a left sided wing-back for Inter, it is believed he will operate in the same role for Spurs.
Perisic can also offer support in attack too. Throughout his career, Perisic has featured across all positions in the front three. He has also managed in the attacking midfield role.
Under Conte’s 3-5-2 regime, it is believed he will feature exclusively as a wing-back. Conte has struggled to cement a solid wing-back on the left side all season, with Ryan Sessegnon struggling to compete at the top.
The deal is expected to be on a two-year contract with the club.
