‘It will come’ – Benzema backs Real to beat Liverpool to world-class man

Karim Benzema Real Madrid

Karim Benzema believes Spanish giants Real Madrid will win the race for a top Liverpool target.

The Frenchman has been in fantastic form this term, notching eight goals in just seven league appearances. He recently got off the mark in the Champions League against Moldovan side Sheriff Tiraspol.

However, Los Blancos suffered a surprise defeat at home. Goals from Jasurbek Yakhshiboev and Sebastien Thill gave Sheriff an history victory in Europe.

The defeat has reportedly forced Real chiefs into action. They are searching for attacking reinforcements, as well as Benzema’s long-term replacement up front.

Paris Saint-Germain goalscorer Kylian Mbappe is their transfer priority. They submitted two bids for him in August but were swiftly knocked back.

They are expected to offer Mbappe a new package in January. He is able to speak with interested parties under the Bosman ruling as his contract expires in June.

Liverpool have long been linked with the France international. They could jump ahead of Real in the queue for his services next year.

Adama Traore set for new Wolves contract

Adama Traore is reportedly set for a new Wolves contract in a blow to Liverpool and Spurs, with more news on Sam Johnstone and Moussa Diaby.

However, Benzema has backed Real to get a deal over the line. He told French newspaper L’Equipe (via Daily Mail): “He said it himself. He wants to see something else.

“Someday he will play for Real Madrid. I don’t know when. But it will come. It’s just a matter of time.”

Benzema himself could be key to the negotiations. He returned to the France squad for Euro 2020 and played alongside Mbappe under Didier Deschamps.

PSG are desperate to keep hold of the forward and will not entertain any offers. They are even planning to reward him with a new deal, despite his obvious wish to leave in search of a new challenge.

Mbappe originally joined the French outfit for £165.7m back in August 2017. He has since managed an impressive 136 goals in 181 appearances.

Klopp reveals loan approach for Liverpool man

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has spoken about the potential for Curtis Jones to leave on loan.

The attacking midfielder, 20, is gradually working his way into the Reds first team.

He scored a great goal in the Premier League recently as Liverpool were held to a draw against Brentford.

On the player, Klopp told Sky Sports: “People have asked me a hundred times, ‘Can he go on loan? What about going there to get more match practice?’ No, let him be here.

“That’s the good thing about being really committed to the club as a young boy. He will maybe not have 30, 40 games a season at 18 or 19 but he can still learn so much.

“I didn’t want to let him go to play maybe 30 games in League One. I wanted him here so that he learns our football. And that’s what he did.”
