Also known as the Tractor Boys, Ipswich Town were founded in 1878. Now languishing in League One, Ipswich were once one of the biggest clubs in England, dominating with performances in the league and in Europe under the management of the legendary Bobby Robson who was in charge from 1969 until 1982. Amongst the silverware they have won, the club are able to boast winning the 1980 UEFA Cup, the 1977/78 FA Cup and the 1961/62 League title.
Things have been a bit tougher for Ipswich in recent times with a succession of managers including Roy Keane, Paul Lambert, Paul Jewell and Mick McCarthy all unable to return them to the Premier League. Indeed, such have been their frustrations that it has been 24 years since they were last able to defeat their bitter East-Anglian rivals Norwich City in the Old Farm derby.
Currently managed by Kieran McKenna and skippered by Egyptian defensive midfielder Sam Morsy, other big names on the team roster include former Tottenham midfielder Tom Carroll, Nigerian forward Sone Aluko and defender George Edmundson. But none of these names are able to compare to the stars of yore who dazzled on the field during the Robson era and brought much acclaim to the club. Some of the stars to have donned Ipswich's blue and white kit in years gone by include the club's most capped player Mick Mills, their leading goal scorer Ray Crawford.
Ipswich boast one of the biggest and most committed celebrity fans in the form of singing sensation Ed Sheeran. The 'Shape of You' singer isn't just a fan, he is so dedicated to the Ipswich cause that he is their current shirt sponsor.
