Liverpool icon Roberto Firmino offered ‘huge-money’ deal by European giants with four options now on the table
Barcelona have reportedly offered a ‘huge’ contract to Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino, who will be out of contract this summer.
The 31-year-old is looking for what will probably the last big move of his career, and is being monitored by four top European clubs as it stands.
For now, Firmino will be focused on finishing his eight-year stint at Liverpool on a high, but will certainly have one eye on his next move.
As previously reported by TEAMtalk, Italian giants Inter Milan and AS Roma have both registered an interest in the Brazilian, while Real Madrid have recently emerged as another potential destination.
However, they could be set to face competition from bitter rivals Barcelona, who have submitted a ‘huge-money’ offer to Firmino as he mulls over his next move, according to Football Insider.
Their report adds that a Saudi Arabian club are also ‘ready’ to sign the attacker on a free transfer in the coming months, so there is certainly no shortage of interest in his signature.
Despite being past his prime, Firmino has still scored 11 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions this term – so Jurgen Klopp may find it difficult to replace him next season.
Barca eye big move for Firmino
Indeed, since joining Liverpool back in 2015, Firmino has made 360 appearances overall, scoring 109 goals and making 79 assists – giving him an impressive average of 0.52 goal contributions per game.
The striker has also played a key role in the Merseyside’s club recent success, helping his team to win one Premier League title, a Champions League, an FA Cup and a League cup in the Carabao Cup.
His boundless stamina and reputation for pressing from the front has also made him a fan-favourite among Liverpool supporters, so they will no doubt be sad to see him leave.
Looking forward, with Firmino’s next move likely to be his last chance to perform at the highest level, he will have to weigh up how much of a role he would play for his potential suitors.
Barcelona’s current main striker is Robert Lewandowski, who is currently LaLiga’s top scorer with 17 goals in 25 appearances. However, at the age of 34, he could certainly do with some quality support like Firmino.
Due to their ongoing financial difficulties, the Catalans may not be able to spend much on new additions this summer. So, bringing in Firmino on a free transfer could prove to be an excellent bit of business from Xavi and co.
A front two of Lewandowski and Firmino is certainly a mouth-watering prospect, so it will be interesting to see if Barca beat Inter, Roma and Real Madrid to his signature.
