Game over for Tottenham pair, as ruthless Postecoglou tells duo to find new clubs
Tottenham have told two stars their time is up, with a pair of high profile new arrivals set to spark a double exit, per a report.
Spurs conducted much of their summer business bright and early this year when moving decisively for the likes of Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison before June was out.
Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski have been signed to permanent deals following loan spells, while Manor Solomon and Ashley Phillips have since been banked.
However, Tottenham’s window is far from complete, with the continuing saga around Harry Kane still rumbling on.
Bayern submitted a third and final offer worth over €100m for Kane on Friday. The Bundesliga giant set a deadline of midnight on Friday night for a response, though Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy did not reply one way or the other.
Elsewhere, manager Ange Postecoglou is determined to land two established centre-halves. Micky van de Ven (Wolfsburg) will be the first to arrive, while talks continue over the signing of Edmond Tapsoba (Bayer Leverkusen).
Van de Ven will fly to London on Sunday ahead of undertaking a medical on Monday. All being well, the Dutchman will complete his €50m (approx. £43.2m including add-ons) move in the coming days.
But with the Evening Standard confirming a second major name at centre-half is wanted, exits are now a must.
To that end, the outlet state Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon ‘have been told they can find a new club’.
Sanchez offer accepted, but deal rife with issues
Rodon was loaned to French side Rennes last season, while Sanchez was generally restricted to substitute appearances during his 24 outings back in north London.
Speculation has swirled over the futures of fellow defenders Japhet Tanganga, Ben Davies and Ivan Perisic. However, if the Standard are correct, it’s Sanchez and Rodon who’ll be turfed out first.
Finding a buyer is now the priority and Sanchez in particular is attracting significant interest.
Indeed, the 27-year-old centre-half was the subject of a £10.4m bid from Spartak Moscow that was accepted by Tottenham. However, news on that front has since gone cold amid the player having serious doubts over moving to Russia.
Among the concerns Sanchez reportedly harboured were the ongoing conflict in the region, Russian clubs being banned from European competitions, and the frequent racist abuse black players suffer in the country
With a move to Spartak now seemingly resigned to the scrapheap, the Athletic reported Galatasaray and LaLiga pair Sevilla and Real Betis are in the mix.
