Tottenham’s bizarre links to Kylian Mbappe have been explained, with two other deals set to go through, Liverpool will battle Man Utd for a Bayern Munich star, while Wednesday’s Euro Paper Talk claims a world-record Man City transfer raid has been held up.
MBAPPE TO TOTTENHAM CLAIMS ‘BEING PUSHED’ BY PSG
Suggestions that Tottenham are looking to push through a staggering deal for Kylian Mbappe have been explained – and the rumours should be taken with the pinch of salt you should expect.
Ange Postecoglou’s side are gearing up for the departure of Harry Kane as speculation over a move to Bayern Munich continue to gather pace. His exit will leave Tottenham with a near-impossible hole to fill, with reports ramping up over who they could target.
To that end, this report detailed eight possible names on their shortlist for whom they could target.
Of those names, it appears the player at the top of their wanted list is Eintracht Frankfurt star Randal Kolo Muani. To that end, claims he could leave for a fee of around €80m would likely fall within Spurs’ budget.
Lately, however, reports in France have been trying to push the suggestion that Tottenham are also in the market to sign Mbappe.
The acclaimed frontman also finds himself at a career crossroads with PSG looking to move him on with his deal expiring next summer.
And the first club to make their interest known are Saudi sides Al Hilal, who are ready to spend a world-record €300m fee on acquiring his services on a one-year deal. On top of that, they are also willing to pay the player a salary worth a staggering €200m over that year.
After spending a year in Saudi, speculation suggests Mbappe would then be free to join Real Madrid on a free transfer.
But reports in France lately are trying to push the mantra that Spurs are also in talks over a deal. Their plan, it’s claimed, would be to sign Mbappe on loan, paying PSG a significant fee for the privilege.
Yet without European football on offer and unable to match the vast sums on offer in Saudi, few believe the links are creditable.
Now transfer journalist Graeme Bailey has explained where the links have emerged from.
And, speaking to the Talking Transfers podcast, he admits the rumours are being generated entirely from the French club’s point of view as they try and drum up more interest in the player.
“PSG what has happened over the past week is they have used intermediaries to touch base with every club possible, so those links to Man United and Tottenham, that all started with PSG, they are briefing other sources to say there is interest from these clubs, it is all from PSG this, it is all from PSG,” Bailey said.
Mbappe not happening, but Ibanez, Adarabioyo close for Tottenham
With Mbappe simply not even a possibility for Tottenham, Postecoglou is working on two targets who are realistic signings.
To that end, reports claim a double defensive deal is closing in for the Aussie.
Indeed, with interest in Micky van de Ven cooling for now, Spurs have turned their focus back towards Edmond Tapsoba.
But after learning Bayer Leverkusen have no wish to sell the Burkina Faso international, headway is now being made over Roger Ibanez.
Tottenham initially made an enquiry for the Brazilian earlier in summer, only to be dissuaded by Roma’s €35m asking price.
However, they have since dropped their valuation by €10m to €25m (£21.45m) – a fee which has aroused Spurs’ interests.
Now reports in Italy claim they will look to push his signing through once a deal to take Davinson Sanchez to Spartak Moscow is finalised.
He won’t be the only centre-half to sign either.
Spurs have also been looking at Blackburn’s Ashley Phillips, though Rovers’ demands appear to have scuppered a deal.
Instead, Tottenham are turning attention back towards Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo.
And amid reports he could be allowed to leave for just £18m (€21m), he is quickly emerging as a priority for Postecoglou.
The addition of the pair would set Spurs back a combined £39.5m (€46m) making the duo attractive options.
