Chelsea receive £25m bid from Nottingham Forest for overlooked defender after failed Bayern Munich plan

Trevoh Chalobah, Chelsea, October 2022

Nottingham Forest have made an offer to sign Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea after talks stalled over a move to Bayern Munich, according to reports.

Chalobah was being targeted by Thomas Tuchel for a reunion at Bayern Munich after their sale of Benjamin Pavard to Inter Milan. However, the two clubs preferred different types of deal. Chelsea wanted to cash in on Chalobah, but Bayern wanted him on loan.

It prompted the move to freeze, although Chelsea are reported to have warmed to the idea of loaning Chalobah out on deadline day, per the Guardian. However, Bayern went quiet and the German transfer window is now closed after a 5pm cut-off point.

However, the Guardian‘s Jacob Steinberg has revealed that Chalobah could still leave Chelsea, since Nottingham Forest have tabled a £25m bid for his services.

The problem is that the 24-year-old is deemed to be ‘reluctant’ to join Forest. Therefore, Chelsea could be stuck with him, despite him being far down their pecking order at centre-back.

Earlier this month, Forest took Andrey Santos from Chelsea on a season-long loan. If Chalobah is to follow him on a permanent deal or otherwise, it will require a late twist on deadline day.

Chelsea already offered Chalobah to Forest earlier in the summer, when they were expressing their interest in Brennan Johnson.

Although Johnson is Tottenham-bound instead, Forest still seem willing to pursue Chalobah, who has more than 60 appearances to his name for Chelsea.

Chalobah remains under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2028, with the option of an extra year.
