Brentford Football Club, or The Bees as they are commonly referred to, were founded in 1889. Now based at the Brentford Community Stadium, they had previously played their home games at Griffin Park for more than a century. Based in west London, they are currently plying their trade in the Premier League having returned to the top flight of English football after more than 70 years in the lower divisions.
Brentford have never won any of the major competitions in English football. To date their best league finish was fifth in the First Division (now the Premier League) in the season of 1935/36. They have reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup four times and once made the semi-final of the League Cup.
Currently managed by Danish gaffer Thomas Frank, the team traditionally play in red and white striped shirts and black shorts. A quick glance through the annals of Brentford History show a number of successful managers including their legendary boss Harry Curtis, who led the club from 1926 to 1949 - a period that took in 708 games with a total of 306 wins. Another legend is Malky MacDonald while more recently David Webb, Martin Allen and Dean Smith have all enjoyed successful periods with The Bees.
Player wise the undoubted star of the current team is striker Ivan Toney, who banged in a Championship record number of goals as Brentford were promoted to the Premier League via the play-offs at the end of the 2020/21 season. In terms of club legends and greatest players, some of the club icons include Paul Bence, Gerry Cakebread, Ken Coote, Peter Gelson and Tommy Higginson.
