Known as The Cherries, AFC Bournemouth were founded all the way back in 1899. Originally known as Boscombe FC after the suburb in which they were based, they only adopted their current moniker in 1971. Currently playing in the EFL Championship after relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2021/22 season, the club are managed by former England midfielder Scott Parker. With a stellar squad that includes Danish international Philip Billing, former England star Gary Cahill, midfielder Todd Cantwell and Junior Stanislas, the team are skippered by Lloyd Kelly. Over the years many famous players have donned the legendary red and black stripes of The Cherries, including Steve Fletcher, James Hayter and Marc Pugh.
Bournemouth play their home games at Dean Court, which is now known as The Vitality Stadium for sponsorship reasons. It is named after the Cooper-Dean family who donated the land for the stadium as long ago as 1910. The club are now owned by Russian petrochemical businessman Maxim Demin. When he bought the club, Maxim acquired a team with a long history but one that had won very little by way of titles. To date the club's greatest successes have been achievements in the lower leagues - including winning the Championship title in the season of 2014/15 under the guidance of manager Eddie Howe.
