Familiar face occupies Newcastle thoughts but deal could see one star forced out
Newcastle United are reportedly keen on former Bournemouth star Arnaut Danjuma, and a deal including Miguel Almiron could be on the cards.
The Magpies’ desire to make quality signings has been obvious since their takeover last year. Indeed, the four permanent additions to the squad in January have made a big difference.
Newcastle were battling relegation not long ago, but have climbed out of danger of late, and sit 15th. A lot of the upturn in form can be attributed to the new signings.
More additions are expected in the summer, and while Newcastle will not want to break the bank, they will want to add quality.
Eddie Howe’s side are reportedly targeting Danjuma, from Villarreal, per The Boot Room. Howe managed the Dutchman while they were both at Bournemouth.
In the top flight with the Cherries, Danjuma had little effect, failing to find the scoresheet in 14 appearances. However, he found his feet in the Championship, with 22 goal contributions in 33 games.
The winger has continued that form since his £21.15million move to Villarreal last summer. Indeed, he has contributed to 17 goals in all competitions, including five goals and an assist in the Champions League.
As such, he appears to be a player with a lot of quality, and his previous relationship with Howe could help the Magpies’ case.
Newcastle could swoop in for Philippe Coutinho
Newcastle have been linked with a move for Philippe Coutinho and they could tempt him with a £1 million bounus.
Adding more quality to the side will help Newcastle to battle for a place higher in the table next term.
Of course, that is dependent on whether or not the Magpies can get a deal done.
Almiron could make way for Danjuma
It is believed that Almiron will be allowed to leave St James’ Park in the summer. Indeed, he has not quite had the impact that the club would have hoped for.
The Paraguayan’s biggest-goals haul in the Premier League is four. For a player Newcastle signed to boost their attack, that is clearly not what they would have envisioned.
As such, Almiron could pave the way for a deal for Danjuma, with report stating that a swap deal could be potentially occur.
Given Danjuma is reportedly worth around £63million, any avenue that could lead to Newcastle paying less is worth exploring.
